I want to name our daughter Renu...like renew...what's the origin/meaning other than the obvious dictionary?

Renu is an East Indian name- I went to school with a girl named with a girl named Renu (pronounced Ree-noo), not sure what it means. Might be a teasing name though...

I want to name our daughter Renu...like renew...what's the origin/meaning other than the obvious dictionary?
It's the name of the contact lens solution I use.
Reply:Renu is an Indian name which means "atom"
Reply:Please don't saddle your child with this name (which is also a contact lens product). Imagine the years of kidding she will get if she decides to become a librarian!

If you are set on using this name, why not save it for the middle name? Less embarrassing.
Reply:You might want to reconsider the spelling of it as that's the brand name of a contact cleanser.

If you like the meaning, then maybe find a different language of the word and name her that.
Reply:I think it's a beautiful name! Forget everybody else!
Reply:You want to name your daughter after contact lens solution?! How embarrassing for her!
Reply:Will she be embarassed by the name when she is older?

Direct me to a dictionary list of file names with the extention .exe?

I get a lot of popups from Zone Alarm, asking if I want to allow a certain .exe to load.

Example: What is Isass.exe and what does it effect on my PC?

Direct me to a dictionary list of file names with the extention .exe?
http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/isass....

Hope this is useful
Reply:I can help you with this.

Usualy when ZoneAlarm prompts you, it will give you an opinion of rather you should allow the process or not. But if your unsure about it then do what I do:

goto www.google.com and type in the name of the .exe and it will usualy have a link about the process information. Here is an example using lass.exe and this is the results I got by searching

lass - lass.exe - Process Information

And thats a link, so you click it and read on the page about the process. Or just goto this website and type in the .exe name and it should help you out:

Wasn't Longman the person who compiled the dictionary?

Why is the name of a book "the bible" in the dictionary?

when I search the definition of or read the dictionary, under the word bible, it only describes what is in the book the bible (Christian old and new testament), not the definition of the word? is it derived from the word bibliography? (a collection of books on a certain subject),when it is just the name of a fiction book? putting it in the dictionary as a word, then advertising the books contests as "sacred" puts it above other books that are not listed as words, free propaganda. how did the name of a book get word status. and when was it decided?

Why is the name of a book "the bible" in the dictionary?
You have a simplified dictionary. Mine contains (beside the reference to the "Bible" -- scriptures) the following: a reference publication esteemed for its usefulness and authority; a bird-watchers bible.

Most collegiate (college) dictionaries will contain this definition.

Edit: A compact dictionary is what I consider to be a simplified dictionary. Definitions are left out to allow for printing the compacted version. Sorry, but if you want to use a dictionary to find most of the definitions of a word, you'll have to go for one that is at least college caliber. It really wouldn't hurt to own an unabridged dictionary, as far as that goes.

Dianetics is a literary work of L. Ron Hubbard. Names of literary works generally do not appear in dictionaries. Evidently, the authors of the two dictionaries I have (along with yours) do not consider Scientology to be significant enough to give it an entry. Surprising, Mormon, Mormon Church, and Book of Mormon are in both of my dictionaries, so evidently any reference to religions has to exist for maybe a hundred years or more (The Church of Scientology was organized as a legal entity in 1953). I don't have an unabridged dictionary, so I don't know if you'll find Scientology in a recent edition or not. I suspect you'll find a reference in an encyclopedia, though.

Generally, I'll use both an encyclopedia and a dictionary, as needed. I prefer wikipedia for a quick reference over my set of Britannicas.
Reply:The definition is correct. Bible mean a collection of small books. You may feel offended because the Bible is also inspired of God as 2 Tim. 3: 16 %26amp; 17 brings out. The dictionary has to be unbiased and open minded in it's description of words and of people. Also there are other "holy" or "sacred" writtings other than the Bible. They may not be sacred to you because of your personal belief, but they are for others.
Reply:It is most certainly a work of fiction. A collaborative effort, compiled over a number of centuries, translated countless times with little or no quality control and badly misrepresented in many quarters.

It is undoubtedly a great work of literature. Its influence has been reverberating around the world for centuries.

But ithen we could describe many works of literature in just the same way. Tales From The Arabian Nights. The Karma Sutra. The Koran....they are all very similar in many ways. What makes the bible so special to your mind?
Reply:Bible is a word so common and widely used that it warrants a dictionary entry. It means "book/s" that should be in the etymology. Get a better dictionary. OED is good it will give you expanded meaning and usage, etymology, and early usage dates and examples.
Reply:Because the Hebrew word for bible just meant book.

And if that's the way they decide to define it, and you have a problem with it, buy a new dictionary.
Reply:Originally the bible was called "The Book"

Reply:Biblioteca = Spanish word for library.

Any resemblance?
Reply:Because believe it or not some ppl dont know what a bible is. Some children anyway

Can u name the site to get list of words (other than those 3000) used to define advanced reader's dictionary?

What do you mean be 3000? Is that all there is in the Advanced Learners Dictionary? I've been meaning to read it since a child(having had great belief in myself) but never did. I have no idea what isn't in it then. Sesquipedalian(love the word)? Not sure. If you take this English advancement seriously though, learn three other languages; ancient Greek, Latin %26amp; French. Then there will be no further pretense about being advanced. You will be.
