In a lot of old-fashioned/vintage/unabridged dictionaries, they have sections in the back with a glossary of places, and a glossary of people, amidst other things. What is the name of those two sections, the one of places and the one of people? I'm not referring to an appendix. I need the specific names.
Thanks,
J
Name for a section of the dictionary?
The section for places is called a gazetteer. I can't find or think of a one-word name of the section for people. One dictionary I have calls these sections simply "Geographical Names" and "Biographical Names." Another calls the people section "Biographical Dictionary."
